Telemedicine: contract signed for national platform services

Rome, 8 March 2023 - The Ministry of Health today signed a contract with the Temporary Business Grouping (RTI) Engineering Ingegneria Informatica S.p.A. and Almaviva S.p.A. for the concession award of the "Design, construction and management of the enabling Services of the national PNRR Telemedicine Platform". The contract is worth 250 million euros.

The national telemedicine platform is one of the investments planned under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) to strengthen the National Health Service (SSN). The aim is to improve access to care and to healthcare, reducing regional inequalities.

Thanks to the platform, healthcare professionals will have new validated tools to work effectively in every individual and multi-disciplinary process. Patients, in turn, will be able to access care and health services more simply and quickly, including remotely.

The Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci, expressed satisfaction with the agreement, stressing how the national telemedicine platform "will allow us to win the challenge of overcoming inequalities in the provision of services and care between different areas of the country".

In particular, the platform will allow you to:

  • improve access to care and health services, including remotely, particularly for people with reduced mobility or living in remote areas;
  • reduce waiting lists;
  • improve the quality of care, through data sharing and collaboration between healthcare professionals;
  • reduce pressure on hospitals and A&E departments.

The national telemedicine platform will be built by 2024.
